Canon vs Nikon SLR pricing
While it’s quiet on Canon rumours for the 5D mk2 I thought I’d post the current rough pricing levels of the Canon Digital SLR range versus that of Nikon (not including discounts, based on a few main web retailers). I think it’s of interest to see where it would potentially fit in terms of price level in the current market.
Nikon are clearly offering better pricing levels for ‘entry level’ cameras but these are no slouches with good reviews and new SLR users are entering the market often looking at Nikon first. I’m not in my local camera dealer often but when I’ve been in each time I’ve seen demos of Nikon or someone leaving with one.
What is noticeable is how once above the lower ‘entry’ level then the price roughly doubles for a jump to the next in line. Can Canon afford to have a premium price level when Nikon are taking market share, to say nothing of Sony who are newish to the fray but are making inroads? For the serious amateur there is a reasonable difference in price between the 5D vs D300. That could easily go towards another lens.
