Canon 5D mk2 - more rumors
Over at Fredmiranda.com there is a new Canon 5D mk2 rumor based on two main points, one that the camera is no longer available from Canon saying what 5D stock that is out there is going to the last. The second being that Canon’s sales meeting is Aug 7 through 14, so expect to hear official news then. There are a few anecdotal posts following up saying they’ve been told by stores that there’s no more stock but I have heard this many times before.
On the marketing front it wouldn’t steel the thunder of a big show launch if a product is announced beforehand; it’s commonly used to generate press coverage prior to products being unveiled in the flesh. It would also be good PR for Canon but then again the timing isn’t great, it’s holiday season and that’s a dead time for most marketing.
There are a number of other rumors as well, that the 40D has an official price drop (street price has been stable in the UK but it could go much lower due to cameras below it) and the XSi (450D) should see a price fall also. On the non SLR front it states that the G9 will be updated by the G10 soon.
