5D mk2 at the Olympics?

By | August 1, 2008

Apparently a number of senior Canon management are going to China for the Olympics, a nice trip to see all those white lenses of course but they are rumored also to be announcing new Canon cameras before the Olympics. This is a showcase event which would be a great stage but is the 5D replacement/upgrade a sports spec camera? Suggested dates were today or Monday, regardless of which it starts on the 8th so it’s not long. Also suggested were two cameras - one single digit, and one double digit… so maybe one has a spec with quick image capture required for sporting events, I can’t believe they wouldn’t be using for promotion at the Games if true. These dates though are before the Canon sales meeting, you’d think maybe the Sales force would be in on things, maybe they are?

Is there really a 5D mk2 or it’s replacement arriving in warehouses? A comment from a visitor to a Jessops photography store in the UK indicates so but is scant on information

“The Canon rep has told them the 5D replacement has started shipping and is in the UK already (insufficient quantities to release as yet though), unfortunately they weren’t able to give me any specs or details as the Canon guy ‘didn’t know anything’ ”

Another false dawn, we shall see………
